Judicial Reformation ?

"A Judicial Appointments Commission will be appointed to nominate, appoint and promote judges in a transparent and representative manner."

Ok it's good to hear that, so the PM has given his policy speech to re-install the judiciary integrity but then AG should not sleep on that policy speech. They must work more faster then before to implement the policy. Yet I'm not that happy since PM still holds the power on judiciary. How? The commission will submit the name to PM and he will submit the suggested name's to Agong for the appointment. Change it too, let the Chief Justice submit the name straight to Agong then we can see the real independency of judiciary.

Theory on Osai shut down

Makkal Osai has submitted their appeal letter to Home Ministry to repeal the decision “not to renew the license”. Some said the main reason for “not to renew” was the wide coverage given by the Osai to Black14 and Anwar Ibrahim. Some even top-up the reason that Uthaya’s photo in front page contribute for the denial. But for me, i believe the two reasons given were more on supplementary and not the major factor. Let me present to you my theory which I believe the main factor for the license denial is SV’s and his long term political strategy. Who will gain if M.Osai denied the license renewal? Palanivel or Samy Velu? From Subra’s perspective he is not a threat to Palani and Palani also not a threat to SV. But Subra is a threat to Samy. So rather than SV removing Palani, it’s better for him to take out Subra from public appearance, in order to remain in power. It’s open secret that M.Osai is associated to ex-deputy president Subra. The paper has played major role on condemning SV. Before the 12th GE, home ministry suspended the paper for one month after the SV’s man lodge complaint on the Jesus caricature. But then the ban was removed after one month. Even during the mic special gathering before the GE, SV’s man was collecting the signature from attendee’s on petition to Home Ministry to close down M.Osai. At that time the home minister didn’t expect indian votes will swing extremely to opposition but then after the GE they realised the reality.

So now they have to hunt back the tools that make the votes swing and one of it was M.Osai. SV accepted the fact, Subra has more supports from indian and non-indian community than he him self and M.Osai has played a major role to highlight Subra to public. After the election SV have to re-position him self to make him relevant to the party and indians but without the government post he can’t do much. The strongest opponents were Subra and SV have to silence him. How? First he re-patch him self with Subra. The moment SV re-patched, immediately M.Osai has stoped condemning SV and they start to talk about the uniting Indians under one umbrella that is mic. Unfortunately no one expects the renewal will be rejected while SV has played his role silently. People also won’t suspect SV’s role since they patch up together. Subra stuck in middle, his supporters is not happy with his decision to re-patch with SV and now he doesn’t have any platforms to voice his mind. In other words, Subra now are trapped with his wrong strategy to re-patch with SV and in-return he have to pay a very high cost, that is lost of the supporters and Makkal Osai. After this, if he still can’t read the SV political strategy, then I don’t have any other words to say other than Good Bye Dato’ Subra. The readers do not need to agree with my theory but think about it whether there is any logic or not.

Tamil daily Makkal Osai banned

[updated: 00:21 / 18 April 2008] DAP Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang: Popular Tamil daily, Tamil Makkalosai, has been suspended for a week by none other than the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar himself for giving too much coverage of Pakatan Rakyat news. With immediate effect, Tamil Makkalosai will not appear in the streets until next week, awaiting the fate of its appeal to the Home Minister. Is this the first sign of repression and crackdown on human rights and the little space opening up in the printed media after the March 8 “political tsunami”? It is clear that the decision to stop the publication of Tamil Makkalosai, which is still awaiting for its KDN this year, has got the “green-light” from the Cabinet meeting this morning. Why did the Ministers, particularly from Umno and other Barisan Nasional component parties, particularly from the MIC, who have promised to end their subsidiary and subservient role in Cabinet , agreed to such a repressive measure as to immediately close down Tamil Makkalosai?

[updated: 16:50 / 17 April 2008] DAP Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran: The ban on Makkal Osai is shocking not only because Home Ministry bureaucrats arrogantly refused to give a reason for the ban, but it comes at a time when the people have clearly indicated through the March 8 polls, that they want a new Malaysia where press freedom is a central pillar. The banning of the paper indicates the Umnoputras who dominate the federal government and bureaucracy have not learnt a lesson from Makkal Shakthi or people’s power shown on March 8. The ban is also unacceptable because it is against fundamental liberties guaranteed under the Federal Constitution. The officials who made this unfair and unjust decision must be made accountable for their action. They must either defend their decision or be sacked. All democracy lovers in Malaysia are shocked by the ban. The newspaper had given fair and free coverage to all political parties – opposition and government in a manner that had won praise from its readers and the Indian community at large. I urge the government to immediately restore the publishing license of Makkal Osai not just because the future of the employees are at stake but also to tell the world that we are a civilized nation and practice freedom of the press. With this ban i feel worse things are waiting to happen like further crackdown by the government? I will vocally raise this matter in Parliament to ensure the paper’Ss license is restored without delay. I will also campaign for the abolition of the need for newspapers to have publishing licenses. The Printing Press and Publication law is undemocratic and against the interest of the people and has been used by the ruling Umno party to instill fear and curb freedom of the press. It must be abolished. Worse for Malaysia this anti-press freedom action comes when Malaysia is at the bottom rank of the World Press Freedom Index. In the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Press Freedom Index 20072007 Malaysia plunged 32 notches, a sad indication of the repressive atmosphere under the administration of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

[updated 16:44 / 17 April 2008 : MIC CWC member S Murugesan: The Home Ministry must provide reasons for the ban. The ministry must be very careful and weigh things properly before taking such drastic action. They should not curtail freedom of expression unless it infringes the law and threatens national security. In the absence of any valid reasons, the ban should be lifted. I am saddened that a paper has been banned especially since Makkal Osai has a big readership among the Indian community.]

[updated 12.55 / 17 April 2008 : Syed Hamid Albar said, Makkal Osai license not renewed because the Tamil daily contravened some of the Home Ministry's guidelines]

Kuala Lumpur: The Home Ministry has decided not to renew the publication permit of Tamil daily Makkal Osai. The newspaper's general manager S.M. Periasamy said that they were informed of the decision by a telephone call from the Home Ministry Wednesday morning. "When I went to the ministry to check if this was true, they handed me the letter rejecting the renewal of our licence," he said. The letter did not state any reasons for the rejection. It is understood that the newspaper's owner, former MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam, met with Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar to appeal the decision. The newspaper also had its permit suspended for one month last August for publishing a picture of Jesus Christ holding a cigarette in one hand and a can of beer in the other on its front-page. The photo had a caption quoting Christ as saying: “If a person repents his mistakes, heaven awaits him.” Makkal Osai or “The People’s Voice” was published as a weekly newspaper for 15 years before it became a daily in December 2005. It is an offshoot of Tamil Osai which ceased operations in 1990 following a management dispute. It has a circulation of 52,000 currently and employs about 100 people. Source: The Star

Rafidah reappointed as minister?

[updated at 13:10 / 16 April 2004] Wait and see whether the PM strong enough to say NO to the Shahrizat's proposal to reappoint Rafidah as a minister. It's totally unexpected and no indication at all that she will be drop but then PM dropped her. Now Rafidah is taking a back door strategy to counter proposal to PM, "she will deliver umno woman wing votes en-bloc" for him if PM willing to re-appoint her otherwise woman will cast their protest vote to whoever stand against him. Mr.PM, it's time for Rafidah to take a rest at home, she has made enough damage's to your administration and you made a decision to drop her so better to stand on that decision rather than reappoint her. Your image will go down to the root of earth if you bow to her pressure.

Declare religious status

Converts to Islam must declare religious status to family members, it will be a compulsory requirement and the government believe it will solve the problem. Oh my GOD, why they are so ignorance on the issue? It's doesn't make a sense at all. I dont think those who want to convert or renounce their faith will go and tell their parents or spouse that he/she decided to convert/renounce, his/her faith. How the person going to prove that he/she has declared about his/her religious status? Do authority going to give a religious report card in order for the person to get the signature as a prove of declaration?

The declaration must come from the authority. The authority must take the full responsibility to inform the parents/spouse about the application of a individu, to convert/renounce his/her faith. Don't sent the letter after they convert and then the purposed of declaration doesn't carry any means. If parents/spouse has any objection then they should submit the notice to the related authority, the best is arbitrators and not to any religious department. Most important, a conversion should not be done automatically to the kids just because any one or both parents decided to convert. If a person are allowed to convert then they also should be given a space to renounce their faith.

Ka Ting's bersandiwara

Ong Ka Ting said all political parties or organisations should stand together to stop PAS from building an Islamic state and any cooperation with PAS will only help PAS to work towards its agenda of forming an Islamic state. I think Ong Ka Ting forget that the one who is actually talibanising the country is umno. When TDM declare Malaysia as an Islamic state in Gerakan annual general convention, none of them has a dissenting voice. Even recently when Najib echo the same statement, this so-called secularist was hiding inside their wife's skirt. Only after they lost the game, Ka Ting are trying to put the things in-order. Actually, Ka Ting are re-strategising his position after the chinese has cast their vote against the MCA. Dissenting voices in mca are equally large as umno except for mic.

Future umno leaders

Believe me, if we let this racist to lead the country in future then Malaysia will go to hell. UM should take the discpilinary action against Afandy for his un-called speech.
