Federal Constitution is the highest law of the country.

Pa Lah, if i'm appointed as your supervisor to monitor your performance then i would say, you failed in your test. You promise to bring in the changes to this country yet not much has been done so far. Looks like you are more interested to hang around with your new wife in overseas rather than in office. You promise to reform the country yet no progress. Unity among the multi racial community are going down and just matter of time to explode yet you are talking nonsense without actions. Tussle between Civil court and Syariah court are getting deeper yet looks like you are taking your sweet time not because you dont have ample time or advisors to think about it but the simple reason is you dont have political capability to stand on the issues. For me you are giving another sweet talk, when you say "any decision on the issue would be guided by the Constitution, the principles of the Rukun Negara and other policies". I'm getting bored with your attitude. Stop talking nonsense and we want to see the actions. You, your party and all the Malaysians must accept the fact, the higher law in this country is the Federal Constitution. Until then, i would not mark my ballot paper for "dacing".

Federal Court Justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad, in a recent landmark ruling, stated that Parliament must resolve the jurisdiction tussle between the civil and Syariah courts as current laws needed to be revised and updated.

POLITIK FAKTOR UTAMA

DETAILS EXPLANATION NEEDED
"NOT A POLITICAL REASON"

Vell Paari finally open up his mouth to defence him self. He says "allegations linking him to the death of an actress was the work of people out to gain political mileage" But looks like a stupid statement. Majority of the Indians in Kuala Lumpur and thousands of the MAICA share holders knew, The Late Sujatha was his personnel secretary and the job scope was more than that. A CEO wont use a company money to buy a personnel luxury car for his PA, but Vell Paari did that.

May be we can say, that his personnel matter. Yes, i do agree that's personnel matter if he use his pocket money to buy luxury car but it's not his personnel matter any more when he used company's money. He and his father are keep on lying to the share holders about the returning of the people's money involving the maica share tragedy, yet he can use the company money for his personnel matter.

He need to give a details explanation on what went wrong and make the late to take paraquat and why his team spread the lies that she die due to the cancer? He can use his father to bribe the authorities but he cannot bribe all the people and until the full and satisfied explanation was not given, then people will assume he was one of the man behind her dead. Any way he dont need to worry, if he is not the person behind the dead.

SIVAPATHIKARAM

The movie was wonderfull since it's carry the message to the audience. Although it's doesnt run as "Shivaji The Boss" but i do believe it is one of the wonderfull movie carrying a specific message to the reformist. I'm not a movie maniac man but decided to watch Sivapathikaram after i read a short info in Astro Channel 74. End of the movie, i was happy for not regretting to spend two hours on watching it.

The story was about a University Professor and a group of student who are looking for a justice and trying their best to reform the country political system. The students take a challenge and join the professor to reform the present government as part of their responsibility as a citizen of a nation. Although they decided to use violence to reform the political system but i do believe we can reform the present political system by out doing the violence. We dont need to carry the extremist tag to reform the political system. What is the point to be a violence political master when during the process of reform we our self will be a cruel man.

So by out doing the violence practioner and by professing the "Non-Violence" struggle we can perform much better then others. As a non-violence practitioner, the basic requirement is "we must register our self as a registered voters". No point to talk about the reformation and street demonstration if at the first place we fail to register our self as a voter.

So if you haven't register your self, please do it immediately and do check whether your family members has registered their self as a legal voters. If yes, you can do a favour by asking your friends whether they have registered their self. By doing this we can remind each others to register our self as a voter.

We can reform the political system by denying the 2/3 majority and not by violence.

K.Sujatha: Murdered or Suicide or Cancer?

Who is the Senior Minister's Son and who is that Senior Minister?

Why the creamatorium was done so fast and none of the family members was allowed to see her for last respect?

One of the letter read as: Please help us, we are poor people. (The minister) and (his son) are powerful," read the letter written in broken Bahasa Malaysia, which named the minister and his son.

Tahukah anda?

The India Street derives its name from the fact that it has always been a street occupied by the Indian shops. Most of the Indians are from the southern and northern India. At first it was called as the "Kling Street" in the 1850’s, but the Third White Rajah of Sarawak, Sir Charles Vyner Brooke changed the name to India Street in 1928. In 1992 the street was closed to vehicle traffic and converted into a pedestrian mall.

Secular State

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is a secular state, insists the MCA.

It said the position was clear as evidenced by numerous historical documents, including the Reid Report, the Cobbold Commission and a 1988 Supreme Court decision. After reviewing the documents used in the process of drafting the Federal Constitution, the party’s secretary-general, Datuk Ong Ka Chuan, said Malaysia was a secular state based on the consensus and social contract agreed upon by the nation’s forefathers."The documents showed that a secular state is the foundation of the formation of Malaya and this consensus was made by our forefathers," he said yesterday. He said this in response to the statement by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Monday that Malaysia is an Islamic nation that protects the rights of non-Muslims.

Citing an example, Ong said according to the Alliance’s memorandum to the Reid Commission dated Sept 27, 1956, it was stated on Page 19 that "The religion of Malaya shall be Islam. The observance of this principle shall not impose any disability on non-Muslim nationals professing and practising their own religion, and shall not imply the state is not a secular state." Ong said former prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj had said during a meeting on April 17, 1957, that "the whole constitution was framed on the basis that the federation would be a secular state".

Ong said notes prepared by the Colonial Office dated May 23, 1957, at the London Conference Talks mentioned that "the members of the Alliance delegation stressed that they had no intention of creating a Muslim theocracy and that Malaya would be a secular state".Additionally, Ong stated that when former MCA president, who was Finance Minister, Tun Tan Siew Sin spoke in parliament on July 10, 1957, in support of the Constitutional Bill, he said that although Islam would be the official religion, "this does not in any way derogate from the principle, which has always been accepted, that Malaya will be a secular state and that there will be a complete freedom to practise any other religion".Ong added that all these documents showed a true picture of Malaysia, which is a secular nation.

MCA central committee member and Kota Melaka MP Wong Nai Chee said Najib’s interpretation was "not in accordance with the spirit and intent of the Federal Constitution".He said that the issue of Malaya as a secular state was vigorously debated again during the 1962 Cobbold Commission before the entry of Sabah and Sarawak, forming Ma- laysia. "Again, the secular nature of Malaysia was reiterated as having been stated in the Reid Commission. The secular nature of our Federal Constitution has been the basis for our nation building since 1957 and reinforced in 1963.

"The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism president, Datuk A. Vaithilingam, urged the government and all Malaysians to respect the social contract agreed to in 1957.The council also strongly objected to attempts by the government to change the status quo.The Bar Council said that in the context of the country’s history and the constitution itself that proclaimed its supremacy, there was no doubt whatsoever that Malay- sia was a secular state.

"It is noteworthy that the prime minister in his speech delivered at the conference yesterday and in his propagating Islam Hadhari has never referred to Malaysia as an Islamic state," the council’s president Ambiga Sreeneva- san said. "It is time that the proposition that Malaysia is not secular (which is a rewriting of the constitution), be put to rest once and for all and that there is due recognition and reaffirmation of the clear legal and constitutional position that Malaysia is, and has always been, a secular state."

SAY NO

RELIGIOUS BIGOTS MUST RESPECT HER DECISION. ALL THIS WHILE BARISAN NASIONAL/RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY SAID, SYARIAH COURT CAN GIVE NON-MUSLIM'S A FAIR TRIAL AND JUSTICE. BUT IN REVATHI'S CASE, IT'S PROVEN, NO JUSTICE TO HER AND HER HUSBAND. UNTIL NOW THEIR KID HAVE NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE DUE TO THE DENIAL OF MARRIAGE REGISTRATION. NOW IS THE TIME TO ASK BACK THE BN WHERE IS THE JUSTICE? NON MUSLIMS DEFINATELY WILL NOT GET THE JUSTICE IN SYARIAH COURT? DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYE ON THIS DENIAL. USE YOUR VOTING POWER TO SAY NO TO THE INJUSTICE.

‘Revathi, that’s my name - forever’

‘Revathi, that’s my name - forever’

[Doi-Moi: Read the last sentence: "Because of their behaviour, I hate (benci) Islam even more now, religious bigots should shame on their self. What is the point they (religious bigots) ask her to remain as a muslim when now she hate more than before. Malaysia said as a Islamic country due to the muslims population but not a Islamic State. Malaysia's highest law is Constitutional Law not Al-Quran. Tun Dr. Mahathir declare Malaysia as "Negara Islam" for political gain but it was never declared as a "Islamic State". Wake up and fight for our rights as a citizens of this country.

M Revathi, 29, still steadfastly wants to remain a Hindu, despite her six month detention by religious authorities and ongoing efforts to make her a Muslim.

“My name is Revathi. I want to hold on to that name - forever. I want to drop the name Siti Fatimah,” Revathi, sporting pottu (Hindu symbol) on her forehead, told reporters outside the Shah Alam High Court today.

Born Siti Fatimah Abdul Karim to Muslim convert parents, she was called Revathi Masoosai by the grandmother who raised her.

She married to V Suresh in 2004 according to Hindu rites and has a 18-month old daughter.

In January this year, Revathi was detained at the Malacca Syariah High Court when she attended a hearing over her application to have her official religious status be recognised as a Hindu.

She was detained at the court and subsequently held at the Ulu Yam religious rehabilitation camp in Selangor for six months until she was freed yesterday.

Speaking about her experience inside the camp, Revathi today described that she was subjected to ‘mental torture’ and claimed that she defied attempts to coerce her to follow religious classes.

“Their programmes are solely on religion. (There were also) prayer classes. I never attended (any of them). I only attended counselling. During counselling, they said I had to do this and that. They said I had to follow (religious) laws. I just buat tidak tahu (ignore).

“I argued that I had a right to choose my religion, but they replied that I should not talk about (my) rights,” said Revathi who is presently living with her Muslim parents as ordered by the religious authorities.

‘Many ran away’

She claimed that many had ran away from the ‘jail-like’ conditions of the camp but she had not.

“A lot of people ran away, even though (the camp was for Muslims). Though I’m a Hindu, I could bertahan (bear with the conditions), because I’m upholding the good name of Hinduism,” she added.

During her detention, she was not allowed visits. Recalling the only time she got to see her husband during her detention, Revathi said:

“Even though I was not allowed to meet my husband, I got to see him (standing) outside the camp, without their permission. I saw his car and I ran towards the fence. It was only once (I got to see him during the detention). After that, they (from the centre) dragged me away.

“Before, it was not enclosed. Now, they used zinc (sheets) to surround the area. You can’t see inside and we won’t know who is outside,” she said.

The emotional moment where Revathi and Suresh were momentarily reunited was captured on film by Al-Jazeera and aired on April 23 in current affairs programme Everywoman. [View video]

Revathi was initially detained for 80 days at the camp but her detention was extended for 100 days twice. Her stint ended yesterday when she was presented before the Malacca Syariah Court.

‘Waste of my time’

She was ordered to live with her parents and undergo counselling. She lamented that she was “unsatisfied” with the decisions made by the court.

“They held me for six months, only to say that I cannot leave Islam. If that is the case, they should have told me earlier, so I don’t have to go into the centre.

“Who’s going to compensate for the six months I was there? (It is a) waste of my time! I was separated from my child and husband. How are they going to compensate?” she asked.

“I have a right to choose my religion. In six months, they cannot make me change my mind, how can they do it now?”

She also said that religious officials tried to force her to pray, eat beef and wear a headscarf.

"Because of their behaviour, I hate (benci) Islam even more now," she added.

Manusia hipokrit

penjara kerana curi 10 skru / 90sen

Membaca Harian Metro online hari ini menyentak hati. Seorang pencuci kereta di hukum penjara 13 bulan dan denda RM1,000 oleh Mahkamah Majistret di sini, semalam, selepas mengaku salah mencuri 10 batang skru besi milik Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).

Bukan mahu membela perbuatan jenayah. Tetapi hati agak tersentak apabila membaca rayuan A Vijaya Kumar, 29.

Rayuan....bukalah mata wahai rakyat tercinta.

Most Valuable Precedent

Bridegroom P. Sanjeevi Rajan and bride R. Sasikalah performing wedding ritual in the presence of Narani yesterday.

PORT KLANG: K. Narani had always wanted to see her son married. But the tears of the guests at the wedding ceremony yesterday were of both joy and sorrow.

In a simple gesture of love for his mother, P. Sanjeevi Rajan married R. Sasikalah in front of his mother’s body during her funeral at the family’s house here.Fate had been cruel to the family, as 47-year-old Narani died of a heart attack in Chennai, India, on Sunday while shopping for sarees and other accessories for the wedding which had been originally scheduled for June 30.When her body was brought to the house at noon yesterday, Narani’s grieving husband Perumal suggested that Sanjeevi Rajan honour his mother’s dream of seeing her son married.Bride and groom consented, and after consulting with Sasikalah’s family, it was agreed that the wedding would go ahead.

Two priests were brought to the house, and between 2pm and 3pm, they conducted all the usual wedding ceremonies minus the yagna (fire ceremony).Sasikalah, 25, was dressed in a blue saree while Sanjeevi Rajan wore the traditional vesthi and jippa.Sanjeevi Rajan, 28, also performed the patha pooja, where he washed the feet of his parents.

For this ceremony, Perumal stood beside the body of Narani. The thali was then placed in the mother’s hand before Sanjeevi Rajan tied it around Sasikalah’s neck.Instead of the usual yellow rice, flowers were given to those present in the family hall to bless the couple.Later, Sanjeevi Rajan said though a marriage in such circumstances was unheard of, he was glad that it took place the way it did."I could have got married in the temple later, but would my mother be there? At least now, my mother is still here. My parents were side by side. It means the world to me."It’s both the saddest and happiest day for me in one go," he said wiping away his tears.Sasikalah said she was fortunate to have her wedding in front of her mother-in-law."

I got the chance to pay my last respects as the daughter-in-law and it means a lot to me."Her father, R. Rajaratnam, said when Perumal came up with the idea, he discussed it with family members and everyone felt that it was a good suggestion."It’s definitely worth it.

Narani wanted to see the wedding and Sanjeevi Rajan wanted his mother to be present at his wedding. Both got their wishes."As for the wedding invitations that have been sent out, Rajaratnam said everyone would be informed about what had happened.

However, he said the couple would get their marriage registered at the temple on June 30.

Samy Vellu Copy-Cat

This letter was sent by Jason L to Malaysiakini ..........

I refer to the report Samy pens poem for PM on Works Minister S Samy Vellu allegedly composing an original poem for Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on occasion of the latter’s wedding.

I would like to bring your readers’ attention to the fact that Samy Vellu has plagiarised this poem. Do you know where he plagiarised the poem from? I reproduce below the original poems from which Samy Vellu had employed a ‘cut and paste’ operation.

From This Day Forward

Author Unknown

From this day forward,

You shall not walk alone.

My heart will be your shelter,

And my arms will be your home

Blessing For A Marriage

by James Dillet Freeman

May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring, and may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding.

May you always need one another - not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you to know your fullness. A mountain needs a valley to be complete; the valley does not make the mountain less, but more; and the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain towering over it. So let it be with you and you.

Now, below is Samy’s alleged poem:

‘From this day forward

You shall not walk alone.

Her heart will be your shelter,

And her arms will be your home.

A mountain needs a valley to be complete;

the valley does not makethe mountain less, but more;

and the valley is more a valley because

it has a mountain towering over it’

Really, how cheap can one get?
